Intelligent Energy Loss Analysis and Thermal Efficiency Assessment for Electric Arc Furnaces
AI-Driven Energy Balance and Heat Loss Analytics for Improved Furnace Efficiency
Heat-by-heat mass and energy balance, quantifying individual energy sources and sinks to identify the dominant loss mechanisms.
Heat-by-Heat Energy Balance and Loss Identification for EAFs
The Intelligent Energy Loss Analysis solution provides a comprehensive evaluation of energy efficiency in Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs) by quantifying energy flows and identifying the major sources of heat loss for every heat.
Through advanced mathematical modeling, mass and energy balance calculations, and process analytics, the software enables steel producers to optimize furnace operation, reduce energy consumption, and improve melting efficiency.
Solution Overview
Electric Arc Furnaces are among the most energy-intensive processes in steel production. Even under optimized operating conditions, less than half of the total input energy is effectively converted into molten steel. The remaining energy is dissipated through various mechanisms, including hot slag, off-gas, furnace cooling systems, electrodes, furnace shell and roof, radiation, convection, and chemical reactions.
Our software establishes a comprehensive heat-by-heat mass and energy balance by integrating production, operational, and process data from the EAF. The analytical engine evaluates both electrical and chemical energy contributions, simultaneously considering raw material characteristics, furnace geometry, cooling system performance, Power-On time, tapping temperature, off-gas conditions, and other operating parameters. Interactive dashboards and Pareto analyses provide engineers with clear visibility into where energy is consumed and lost, enabling targeted improvement initiatives.
